Van der Walt banking on change in form

Last year Trevor Fisher Jnr had to rely on a sponsor’s invite to play in the R700 000 Nedbank Affinity Cup, and he went on to win the tournament. This week, Dawie van der Walt also needed a sponsor’s invitation into this event. And he’s hoping for the same result.

Dawie Van Der Walt fires a final round 60 to finish 2nd

OMAHA, Neb. – Former Lamar University golf standout Dawie Van Der Walt fired a career-low round 60 on Sunday at the Tour’s Cox Classic Presented by Lexus of Omaha to move from a tie for 34th to a second place finish.

Van der Walt ends up a putt away from making history

Dawie van der Walt was no more than 8 feet away — twice — from a piece of Cox Classic and Tour history.

Had either putt of that length or shorter gone in on the final two holes Sunday, the South African would have joined Jason Gore (2005) in shooting 59 at Champions Run. His 8-foot putt on 17 was for eagle (he made the second putt for birdie), his putt on 18 from 6 feet was for birdie.

Van der Walt’s wild day ends with him contending

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Dawie van der Walt shot a career-best 8-under 63 Saturday and moved into a tie for 13th place heading into Sunday’s final round of the Midwest Classic. He is at 13-under par at the Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate and has a chance to contend for a top-5 finish.
